In pursuit of an avocation

Profile
  • I have had a lifelong interest in working with wood, an interest cultivated by my father.  In addition to basic wood skills, he taught me to work with precision and strive for high quality.

  • But my father also encouraged me to pursue a life of the mind and I spent my working life as an academic.  For 35 years I was a professor of biology, a career that required perseverance as well as precision to train several generations of students and seek answers to important questions.

  • Through the years I utilized woodcraft as one of my 'therapies' away from the laboratory and classroom.  At the end of a day in the shop, there was always a concrete product to show for my efforts.  This was not always the case in the Academy!

  • In my retirement I have further cultivated my interests in furniture construction and now share the products of my labor with those attracted to my functional and practical designs.  I hope you enjoy them!
